Nigerian Banks Airtime (USSD) Codes for Recharging Your Phone

Nigerian banks have come a long way from where they began.

A decade ago, recharging your phone lines from your bank account was never a possibility any of us could dream of.

But today, you can transfer money, recharge your lines and those of your friends and family all from your mobile phones. The service is now so easy and common that we now even take it for granted.

Every bank in Nigeria, except microfinance banks, offers an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code that allows their customers to transfer money and recharge their mobile lines right from their phones.

The USSD service doesn’t require an active internet connection. Therefore, could be carried out on any mobile device.

The USSD service is not free, though. For airtime recharge, users will be charged N4 per transaction. This is automatically deducted from your phone line. Optionally, you can use your bank app if you want to recharge your line. This method is free but requires an active internet connection.

This post lists out the USSD recharge codes of all the banks in Nigeria (in alphabetical order) as well as a simple example of how to perform the transaction.

Ensure every recharge is done from a mobile number registered with your bank (the phone number must have been receiving credit/debit alert from your bank).

 

Access Bank

If you bank with Access Bank Nigeria, you can easily recharge your line by dialling *901*Amount#

That is *901*200# to recharge your line with N200

To recharge a friends line, dial *901*Amount*phone number#

That is, dial *901*200*08122866702# to recharge the number with N200.

Diamond Bank

Diamond Bank subscribers can easily purchase airtime from their bank account using the *302* USSD code.

To purchase airtime for yourself, dial *302*Amount#

For instance, to recharge your line with N300 dial *302*300#

This will automatically recharge the phone number with the stated amount.

 

Eco Bank

Eco bank customers can easily recharge their mobile lines by dialling *326*Amount#

First Bank

To top your line from your First Bank account, dial *894*Amount#

Before carrying out your first transaction, most banks will ask you to register your line for the USSD service.

Simply try any transaction with the bank codes given above and you’ll be guided on how to register (if registration is actually required). Also, banks have placed a limit on the amount of airtime you can purchase in a day. For most banks, the daily limit is N5000, while for some, it’s N3000.
