Step Up Your Game with the Low-Budget Nokia 1. Full Review Here

Released in February 2018, the Nokia 1 packs a number of exciting features that promise users an excellent performance.

With the many exciting features it brings, HMD (the company now behind the Nokia brand) ensured that the Nokia 1 measures to users expectations for an entry-level smartphone.

Interestingly, the budget phone sports the latest Android Oreo operating system, particularly the Go Edition.

Android Go Edition is a specially optimized operating system that’s guaranteed to run without lagging on low-end smartphones.

Follow me in this Nokia 1 review as I point out what it has to offer and conclude for yourself if it’s actually worth the money.

Design and Display

Nokia 1 comes with an impressive design that’s quite not the norm for a budget smartphone.

It sports a shiny plastic body and shaped like the Nokia Lumia series. The Android phone has a dimension of 133.6 x 67.8 x 9.5 mm, which is not stellar but good.

Its 4.5-inch touchscreen display implies approximately 61.6% screen to body ratio. Although this could be described as average with recent releases in the smartphone market, the 218 PPI pixel density of the display still delivers clear color representation.

Performance

As far as multitasking and speed are concerned, the 1.1GHz quad-core processor and 1 GB RAM ensure no lagging and a reasonably fast performance on average use. Thanks to the specially optimized Android Go Edition operating system which runs flawlessly on low RAM smartphones.

Although the speed is really impressive, it’s subject to changes if you subject the processor to heavy games and applications.

With the Nokia 1, you have the 8GB built-in memory to permanently store your media files. But only 5GB is free for your use courtesy of the Android 8.0.

To ignite your interest, the 8 GB memory is expandable to 128GB.  I believe this would perfectly serve your memory needs.

Battery Life

Nokia 1 is powered by a removable 2100mAh battery which would power the device for 360 hours on standby, 9 hours of talk time and 53 hours of music play.

Disappointingly, the battery does not support fast charge but takes only about 2.5 hours to become fully charged.

Software

In the software department, it scores high with the new Android 8.1 (Oreo Go Edition). This assures you of optimized performance.

The phone contains a number of exciting apps by default, which perform well with the Android Oreo.

Nokia 1 apps

Interestingly, the default apps like Google Chrome, Gmail, Google and others use less memory space. Hence, you wouldn’t have to worry about the capability of the free 5 GB memory to serve the apps.

Camera

The camera is quite excellent for an entry-level smartphone. It features both front and back cameras.

The 5MP back camera is endowed with an LED flash to brighten images formed on the screen when taking shots in low light conditions. It produces average pictures in daylight conditions. The front camera is powered with 2MP and capable of taking acceptable selfies.

Final Verdict

Simply put, the Nokia 1 is not a superlative device; its features are quite low ends.

However, to be fair, it is a smartphone with superior performance and can easily be compared with other more expensive smartphones. For this reason, I believe that Nokia 1 is really worth the money.
