TStv Nigeria: Decoder Price, Subscription, & Channels List

TStv is a dream come true for Nigerians.

Basically, there are 3 unique features you get from TStv; pay-as-you-watch, Wi-Fi, and video conferencing.

I’ll tell you more on that later…

Nigerians have been complaining bitterly about exploitation by DStv Nigeria.

The pay TV, which has dominated the Nigerian TV market since 1994, offers premium services charged at monthly rates.

This has been a nightmare to most subscribers as they’ll rather pay for what they use than being compelled to subscribe monthly – even though they may not exhaust their subscription.

But it seems things will take a new turn with the advent of TStv, a new direct-to-home TV in Nigeria, which is set to offer a pay-as-you-consume plan to customers at a much more affordable price.

This is a unique service in Nigeria; It’s a good news to Nigerians but a bad market to other pay TV providers like Startimes Nigeria.

The new company plans to offer various unique services that will make life easy for average Nigerians. I really hope they deliver their promises and maintain good value.

What is the meaning of TStv?

TStv is a direct-to-home (DTH) pay TV provider that officially launched in Nigeria on the 1st of October, 2017 (Independence Day).

TStv is short for Telcom Satellite Television. The name indicates that the company uses a hybrid technology which combines both satellite and telecom (internet) services to offer TV broadcast to its consumers. Read more on hybrid broadcast.

Who Owns TStv?

TStv is exclusively owned by Telecom Satellite Limited, a registered company here in Nigeria. Bright Echefu is the Managing Director/CEO of TStv.

The company signed a multi-transponder agreement with Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) to deliver a DTH service into Nigeria on ABS-3A satellite, Africa beam which is located at the prime video neighborhood of 3 ͦ W.

So, you’ll be correct to say that TStv is an indigenous TV provider that has come to rescue us from the downside of monopoly with the pay-as-you-consume plan. This is similar to the way Glo came with per second billing (PSB) when MTN and Econet (now Airtel) claimed it was impossible to operate that way.

TStv Decoder/Set Top Box Price in Nigeria

Tstv set top box/ decoder

The decoder (also known as Set Top Box (STB)) and dish will be available for just ₦5000 and comes with numerous features.

The best part is you get 20GB free data bundle, which can be used for making video calls and surfing the internet by connecting your phone or laptop via Wi-Fi. This makes it serve as a modem.

You’ll also be able to record TV programs to its 50GB internal hard drive. If this space isn’t enough, you can connect your external hard drive for more videos.

The decoder allows you to connect to the internet, stream media, and access subscribed content. It also lets you browse content from Facebook, Twitter, video-on-demand sites, OTT apps among others.

It is designed in such a way that it can be used as a router that enables you to connect up to 15 people comfortably.

Features of TStv Decoder/Set Top Box

The STB has various unique and awesome features. I’ve highlighted them here for you.

  • Webcam
  • Video calls with other subscribers via IP
  • Pause subscription function
  • Record and playback
  • 50GB internal storage
  • External hard drive compatibility (up to 1TB)
  • Internet access
  • Wi-Fi 802.11ac
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • USB 3.0
  • 1GB Ethernet
  • RF for hybrid remote controls

TStv Subscription Price

Subscription prices are ₦200, ₦500, ₦1000, ₦1500, and ₦3000. Just like making phone calls, you’re not billed unless you use the service.

This is the unique pay-as-you-consume feature the pay TV offers as against the monthly subscription offered by other providers, where you pay for what you use and what you don’t use.

All subscriptions give you access to watch all channels for a period of time. The time varies depending on your subscription.

TStv also offers subscribers free 20GB data and subsequently, 10GB monthly data for just ₦3000 to enjoy its 4.5G network. This is good news since you can connect your laptop and phone over Wi-Fi. I just hope the network will be strong enough in all areas.

According to TStv, this monthly data is available for extension on demand. If I understand this correctly, it means the service isn’t compulsory. Only if you wish.

Thinking about it … 10GB for ₦3000 is cheap compared to Mtn9mobile, and Airtel data plans.

Where to Buy TStv Decoder/Set Top Box in Nigeria

The STBs are not yet available for sale in all parts of the country. Click here to confirm the availability in your state and the location of accredited dealers.

TStv aims to cover all 36 states of the federation but, for now, will launch in Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Portharcourt, and Owerri. The service will extend to other states later on. The company is probably planning to test-run their service on a small scale before expanding to a large scale.

This way, I believe they’ll make it even better before it becomes available in other locations.

The company is seeking dealers to help distribute the product nationwide. Register here if you’re interested in becoming a super-dealer, sub-dealer, or retailer.

TStv Channels List

The new DTH TV plans to air 200 channels but will begin with 100 channels for now. This figure will later be increased to 150 and subsequently 200.

These channels include 12 sports channels for all live football leagues be it UEFA Champions League, Europa League, English Premier League, Spanish Laliga, or Italian Serie A. Some of the sports channels include BeIN Sports 1-10, Fox Sports HD, and Ts Sports.

The channels are a combination of local, regional, and international channels; they incorporate news, entertainment, kids, health, sports, and education content.

Worry not if you prefer native programs since they’ll come in different languages including Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Ghanaian, Liberian, and Sierra Leonean languages.

You may be wondering if TStv would be able to air some live football matches like the ones I mentioned above since DStv has exclusive rights over them. Well, according to their reply to a post on Facebook, they have all the legal rights and infrastructures to air all sports exciting moments live.

TStv Free-View Installation

Watching TStv is free at the moment – even without the decoder.

This is to allow them test-run their transmission and also enable consumers to have a taste of what they’re going to be paying for soon.

You can, however, only enjoy this free-view if your TV has a built-in receiver or you have a stand-alone receiver like Strong, Qsat and so on.

We are been cheated for so long by dstv. HITV try to operate sometimes ago but lost wright to dstv, pls try so that dstv dont push you out. we need it in benin too.

    • Yes, the company plans to expand to other African countries too. Hope they get to Benin soon.

      • Shabbazz

Hi…im an installer here…..im watchin from Southern Africa.i realy like the package.can i get the box packages to sell and install here in Botswana and South Africa.my watsapp +26772143080

    • I felt unhappy as you did not include onitsha among the list of cities you will start with. Meanwhile, my advice is that you people should do your homework and your politics very well, DSTV…….. okoooo

  • Competition is good for the consumers, but I hope u guys at TSTV can do more as time goes on to bring more local content into your packages and channels as DSTV has done.

  • OGBONNAYA CHIBUIKE

Interesting features if it could be maintained. I encourage local industries as much as I can. I leave in Ebonyi state. If you need a distributor there, I will be available. Please contact me via email. Nice job people. Thanks

    • I also hope they maintain and improve the good features. And I’m also glad that TStv is wholly indigenous.

  • Judges Yinjoh

This is great, We need you in Taraba too. You are welcome TStv.

  • donlass

I love it, I love TSTV I can now use my dstv decoder 4 covering generator nd spread onions nd beans south Africa now wahoo

    • I wouldn’t want DStv to pack up, though. And I don’t think they will. If TStv provides and maintains good value, DStv would have to also offer the pay-per-view plan and other enticing offers in order to remain in business. This is a good thing as it will create an avenue for competition, which is an advantage to us (consumers).

  • pls, i wont to know when is going to start in Akure ondo state?

      • What abt Zee world channel? Can’t seem to find it in the list mentioned

        • Adedoyin Abiodun

This is the same question I wanted to ask. Plz bring our ZEE WORLD TO TSTV to make it more fun

  • Ejiofor Augustine

How is installation STB like… easy as Gotv or like DStv? Any training for installers?

It looks like it’s going to take too much of time to get to warri and environs, please lets get this done on or before December. We are waiting, we have lots of expectations, we are ready to let go of our slavery and walk into a new world of our own. Nigerians, we have done it before with glo, lets do it again with TStv. God bless you and God bless the federal republic of Nigeria.

      • Please sir I want to make enquiry about this tstv ..is it using magabit to view any channels or money

        • The data bundle is just an additional feature for browsing. It is not for viewing any channel. You have to subscribe to view any channel. As mentioned in the post, subscription rates are ₦200, ₦500, and so on.

    • Marvellous Alemonu

I am loving this Pan-Nigerian spirit also my brother.

    • You did it with Glo. How market. Glo with fraustrating network. Too slow. That’s my fear about this TSTV. Will they fulfill their promises?

    • Pls some guys came to lagos bus stop on 12/07/2019 in old port hardcore township to advertise Tstv , the funny thing there is that they were selling antenna which they claim belongs to Tstv for 3000 which i bought as well . they said it will work after 4hours and that i can watch all the channel that it free to air. Up till nothing is appearing on my TV
      Pls how true is this

      • I really don’t know about that. If you’ve set it up as instructed but it still doesn’t work, it’s probably fake.

    • Babafemi S. James

How do you subscribe to tstv without necessarily passing through the marketers?

  • Does the.decoder do recording, pause , fast forward and rewind like the dstv decoder? And please also will they consider increasing the children’s channels?

    • Yes, it does have record and playback function. As for the children channels, maybe they will.

  • Wilfred Eghenedji

How long “in hours” would each recharge translates into?

  • Pls, we also nid dis decorder in auchi, edo state customers as bin disturbn me and also I wil like to be among dia sup dealer in auchi, can u pls explain wat it takes?

    • You have to register on on their website to become a dealer. I left the registration link in the post. Check under “Where to Buy TStv Decoder/Set Top Box in Nigeria”, you’ll find it there. They have quite a few requirements.

  • Christopher Patricks

Pls are subscribers getting access to the below programs live or not? Kindly clarity:-

These channels include 12 sports channels for all live football leagues be it UEFA Champions League, Europa League, English Premier League, Spanish Laliga, or Italian Serie A. Some of the sports channels include BeIN Sports 1-10, Fox Sports HD, and Ts Sports.

  • What a nice content you gat here Fouad. There is going to be so many top jobs opportunity with TSTV Nigeria, and you can suspect that there might be some staff reshuffling in this company, as they are going to be looking to bring in fresh ideas and hands to boost their stakes in the market. See TSTV Nigeria Recruitment Job Application Requirements and Guide here

    • You’re right. There’ll be a lot of job opportunities with the advent of TStv in Nigeria. But TStv Nigeria job recruitment application form is not yet out.

  • Adesuyi Abimbola

Pls can i get work with them? If yes, dis is my contact 07057808280

    • They’ve not started their recruitment. But you can register to become a distributor. The registration link is in the post under “Where to Buy TStv Decoder/Set Top Box in Nigeria”.

  • Olufemi

They will need government support for their survival. Remember what happened to HITV and Others who wants to do the same thing. These white guys will always want to subjugate the Blacks so that you will become their slave forever. Pls Government should assist them so that they will not die…

    • From what I see, the government is giving them maximum support. Especially because the company is a wholly Nigerian owned company.

    • We expect it to be available soon. They’re currently accrediting dealers and putting all necessary things in place.

  • Tstv has come with nice business idea, I pray it holds
IBADAN SHOULDN’T BE LEFT BEHIND O

  • I’ll love to get all notifications on tech opportunities in Nigeria.

    • No problem. Just subscribe to this blog and you’ll get the notifications in your inbox for free. I send updates from time to time.

  • Mervyn

I really do hope they will be able to weather the storm that is coming. I would also like to know if the channels are going to be in HD…

  • Adedoyin Abiodun

They should try and bring our ZEE WORLD, in fact all Bollywood Channels to TSTV to make it more fun.

  • Akeem bayo

Wowwww, dis is really great, shame on Dstv and co. I just hope the internet will not be slow after the multitude of people, shame on them once again, pls where and where can one get dis on lagos, can wait for dis to come

    • Please read the post carefully; you’ll see how to find the location of distributors around you.

  • amos uyeri

i just love this TSTV you
are the bomb. when are you guys comming to warri?

  • Marvellous Alemonu

What does it take to be a distributor? I hate monopoly and this offer is good for Nigerians. I mean there is going to be a reshuffle of the offers being offered to us as citizens with these great objectives of TSTV coming into place.
What does it take a person financially and physically to be a distributor i.e in my local government and more? What responsibilities are attached to being a distributor of a new, growing company with potentials? Thank you Sire.

  • kenechi ninians ugwu

please how can one become a dealer? i will want to part of this wonderful family.

  • What about Zeeworld ??? Its not included in the channel so how can we continue watching the India program??? Thank you

  • pls I’d like to confirm if the 20gig data comes free with the 3000 naira subscription fee or that had to be bought separately?…. bcos you mentioned free data at some point in your post.

    • The decoder comes with 20GB free data. Subsequent data is 10GB for N3000/month. Note that the data is not for watching the channels, it’s just for internet access and is separate from the normal subscription you’ll need to watch your favorite channels.

  • Nelson Nkem

    • The decoder comes with 20GB free data. Subsequent data is 10GB for N3000/month. Note that the data is not for watching the channels, it’s just for internet access and is separate from the normal subscription you’ll need to watch your favorite channels.

      • MIKE E.

So you pay N3000 for Internet access separate? I thought the N3000 covers browsing and watching of your channels? and how much for normal subscription to watch full bouquet, if different?

  • jamil kibiya

I want know the different between decoder & set top box

    • They’re basically the same. From what I’ve heard so far, the decoders are of different types; the flat one and the box type.

  • TSTV, Management should set up modality for installing the decoder free for 1st time costumer or during promo. This is a marketing strategy that your customers should enjoy and without benefit of doubt good justification for choosing TSTV.

  • mack zizi

We need it in Benin city please the way you guys are talking about tstv if is so I really love it, people are you just waiting for it here in Edo Benin city

  • Tonye

Why is it that most of the cable network providers in this country are so attached with Arabic stations like Bein Sports,Mbc2 and Movie Max. Why not Sports24 and English speaking movie stations from western world? You can’t beat Dstv with your kind of stations. Truth be told, am only down with your internet attached to your decoder.

  • Abulkhair
