Read Everything About Tecno Spark 2 in This Review

Tecno is out again with another budget smartphone — Tecno Spark 2.

The device comes with an impressive body design, beautiful display, proficient cameras and all others.

But in a world where phones are overhyped and new models are just reproduced-old-models with few changes, it would be nice to have some good information about any phone. This will go a long way to help you to decide if it’s really worth the wait and money.

When it comes to choosing a new smartphone, it’s always better to look before you leap.

To help, I separate the hype from reality in this review. I discuss everything you need to know about the Spark 2 — cameras, battery life, processors, performances, storage, and so on.

Read on and see for yourself if the phone is really worth the hype or just a recycled old model with few changes out to upset your budget.

Display

Tecno Spark 2 comes with a massive 6-inch display, unlike its predecessors (Spark K7 & Spark K9) which are a little above 5 inches. The well-embedded screen leaves no extra edges for dirt to hide in.

The side bezels are almost non-existent but the bottom and top contain minimal bezels. The top houses a flash, speaker, and notification LED.

It features the much loved 18:9 aspect ratio and a high definition 1440 x 720p display for better picture and video quality.

Design

Phone designs of late, sadly, have not seen much changes. If you’ve been following phone trends like I do, then you must have realized that most manufacturers like Tecno Mobile and Infinix Mobility are plainly designing their phones to look as much as possible as Apple’s iPhone.

Spark 2 comes with the same premium iPhone-like body design but Tecno added a few sparks to make it unique.

It comes with well-laid antenna lines at the top and bottom rear to make the phone pleasing to the eye. Plus a unique 5.77mm thickness, which makes it appear so slim you’ll want to own it. The thinness and beautiful antenna lines really stand out and I’m impressed.

At the rear and right in the middle, you’ll find a circular fingerprint sensor that’s both fast and simple to use. You can use it to quickly unlock your phone or capture images.

Tecno Spark 2 Rear

The right side houses the nano-SIM cards and micro SD card tray. While the left is the home to both the volume and power buttons.

The top of the phone is plain while the bottom houses the loudspeaker, charging port and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Processors and Performance

Tecno Spark 2 comes with an average performing Quad-core MediaTek MT6580 chipset clocked at 1.3GHz. The processor relies on the phone’s 1GB volatile memory to execute its tasks.

Note that only about 408MB is available for use out of the 1GB RAM.

The smartphone is pre-installed with the latest Android Oreo (Go Edition) operating system. The OS has its own set of apps, which are very much like Lite version of apps. For instance, it comes with all the lightweight Google Go Edition apps that require little memory and space.

The lightweight apps combined with the 1GB RAM gives the device an impressive performance with great multitasking ability.

Camera

The superb camera system has always been the highlight of most Tecno phones and the Spark 2 is no different. It comes with a 13MP rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture. This lets more light into the box for better picture quality.

Tecno spark 2 camera

The camera software is quite impressive and features various before-shot and after-shot effects like auto-focusing, automatic face detection, geo-tagging, panorama, HDR, and others.

For the selfie camera, Spark 2 comes with an 8MP resolution, which also supports face recognition technology.

Battery Life

The dual-SIM smartphone packs a 3500mAh non-removable battery. This can give up to 24-hours juice with moderate use. But expect about half the time with heavy browsing over 3G network.

Sadly, it doesn’t support fast charge technology and as such, you’ll need about 2 hours to fully charge from 0-100%

Also, it lacks the 4G network which I believe most of us won’t miss much anyway.

Overall, Tecno Spark 2 is very much like its predecessors but comes with a more beautiful design and is a lot thinner and bolder.
