How To Find The Best Laptop for Your Needs
A laptop is one of the best devices for any serious work or play, whether indoors or outdoors. It’s compact for easy mobility and versatile enough to run most demanding applications.
Tablets and smartphones sure can, sure, offer you several functionalities but it’s easier to work or play games with a laptop than a smartphone or tablet. It offers better comfort for work and fun due to its large and compact build.
With the stream of laptops on the market, getting a laptop for your needs can be quite challenging. Get a laptop with a processor less than your needs or even too small screen size and every work session becomes harder and gaming sessions will move from fun to outright annoyance.
The most important thing to consider before buying a laptop is not the laptop specifications as most of us erroneously do. First, you have to consider your needs – what problems do you want to solve with the laptop?
Are looking for a laptop for heavy typing, gaming, or graphic design? Once you determine your needs everything else should become simpler.
Consider the screen size. You’ll want to go for a laptop with a screen size between 12.5 to 14 inches as they offer the best balance between usability and comfort either for your typing work, graphic design, or heavy gaming sessions.
Consider the processor. There are many processor types like Intel Pentium, Intel Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, AMD, and so on. In most cases, you’ll want to avoid Intel Pentium and Core i3. Core i5 should be your budget laptop especially if you plan to use it for graphic design and heavy gaming. For normal use, a Core i3 processor isn’t bad if that’s what your budget allows.
Consider the laptop RAM. Laptops come with RAM as low as 2GB. You’ll want to avoid those. The least RAM you should go for even if you’re on a budget is 4GB. This is often all you’ll need for good performance. 8GB and 16GB RAM are extremely fast.
Consider graphics chips. An integrated graphics chip is often sufficient if you won’t be doing much game playing or 3D graphics creation on your PC. But if you intend editing high-resolution videos, heavy gaming sessions, or graphic designs, you should consider going for a laptop with a dedicated graphics memory.
