Nokia X6 (Nokia 6.1 Plus) In-depth Review: The First Nokia Phone with a Display Notch
This is an in-depth review of the new Nokia X6 announced in 2018. It is also known as Nokia 6.1 Plus.
You probably don’t know that this isn’t the first Nokia X6. An older version, which is a Symbian phone, was released in 2009.
HMD global, the licensed makers of Nokia phones, launched the new Nokia X6 in Beijing, China.
Nokia X6 is the first Nokia phone to sport a display notch and 19:9 aspect ratio. The notch is similar to that of Apple’s iPhone X. Apart from these, it also has other amazing features that will be unveiled in this review.
Design
Nokia X6 is crafted with metal frames having front and back glass. The design of the back looks gorgeous with a reflective metal frame good finish. It’s a hybrid dual SIM phone with a dimension of 147.2 x 71 x 8 mm. This makes it easy to operate with one hand and also fit into the pocket comfortably.
It’s good to know that HMD retained the 3.5mm headphone jack on this device and pegged the speaker grills at the bottom. The phone is available in 3 colors: blue, black, and white.

It has a huge 19:9 aspect ratio display that gives a large resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. This provides an excellent screen size for movies and games. The notch on it is the first ever on a Nokia phone.
The display is covered by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which protects it from minor scratches. This isn’t the best I’ve seen, as some Samsung phones are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Even Nokia 8 Sirocco.
Software
Nokia Android phones are known to be pre-installed with custom UI. This means that they run on stock Android with negligible bloatware. Nokia X6 is not left out in this, plus it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo.
This hybrid dual-SIM smartphone also comes with 3D touch function with which you can open some apps quickly. Apps like camera, gallery, and so on. The interface is very snappy thanks to the bloatware-free stock Android. You won’t notice any lag on this device since the response time is quick and smooth.
It’s also designed with face recognition technology as well as a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for maximum security. The face ID works well but not as fast on some Xiaomi Redmi phones.
The device also comes with the bothie feature introduced in Nokia 8. This allows you to use both the front and back cameras simultaneously. As for internet connection, it comes with 4G LTE support for fast speed.

Coming to the camera department, Nokia X6 features a dual-camera setup at the back. This comprises a 16MP RGB primary sensor and 5MP monochrome secondary sensor. The cameras are accompanied by a dual-LED tone flash. This means you won’t have to worry about having bright images even in low-lit environments.
The 16MP front camera also produces quality images. Selfie lovers can now up their game on Instagram and Snapchat.
The cameras of Nokia X6 support features for improved photography; this includes optimized color contrast, lightning effect, and HDR support.
Processor and Memory
Under the hood, the device is powered by the recently launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. You’re sure to get optimized performance on the phone.
It’s available in two variants based on memory. The variant with 4GB RAM has 32GB or 64GB internal storage while the variant with 6GB packs 64GB internal storage. Even with the large storage space, there’s an available micro SDcard slot to expand the space to up to 256GB.
Battery
One not-so-good feature I find disturbing on the smartphone is the 3060mAh battery that may not last a whole day. I’d have loved to see anything from 4000mAh upwards.
This downside is, however, compensated for by the presence of Quick Charge 3.0 support. This technology can deliver up to 50% of charge in 30 minutes.
Verdict
If you’re satisfied with the design of the device and have enough budget, just go for it. It’s worth the money. But Nokia 8 Sirocco still beats it in some features.
